Thai Banquet at Spice I Am - owner and chef Sujet welcomed us to his colourful and delicious world in the very elegant surrounds of his new restaurant in Darlinghurst. We started with French bubbles and a demonstration of perfect little soft rice paper wrapped appetisers. We also had a demonstration of Sujet's legendary red curry paste and an incredible banquet. The thing that touched all our hearts was hearing how much respect Sujet had for his mother who taught him how to cook and how to look after people in the Thai tradition - in such glossy upmarket surrounds, it was surprising and very special. So good we are doing it all again. Dates to come in our next newsletter.

Egyptian brekkie at Tagine - owner and chef Ramy Megalaa had everyone pounding their own freshly toasted whole spices, nuts and seeds to make traditional dukkah, served with olive oil and warmed Egyptian bread, then unleashed a range of exotic and delicious dishes served with traditional coffee and cardamom and the favorite hibiscus tea. A gorgeous insight into an exotic cuisine and with a take home pack of dukkah too!

Chilli Crab at Ginger & Spice - It was a wild and delicious idea...a whole restaurant rolling up their sleeves to tuck into one of Asia's most sumptuous and hands on dishes - the finger licking chilli crab - made by the king of Chilli Crab Alex Lee. We decided that crab and Wine Selectors fabulously affordable French Bubbles were a match made in heaven...and then moved on to sample some of Alex's spicy tender beef rendang and more. |

Lucio's - As part of my filming schedule this year, I've spent time with the very charming restaurateur Lucio, whose restaurant in Paddington filled with art works and great cooking smells has drawn accolades for many years. I suggested a regional banquet on a Saturday for lunch, he said he'd love to welcome a Gourmet Safari group...so, if you love Italian food and would like to join us, look out for this one when Suzy gets the program out in the next few weeks.

Blue Eye Dragon Banquet - Come and join us at one of Maeve's new "finds", a beautiful restaurant serving Taiwanese specialties - think delicately spiced dishes, a lighter more elegant style of Chinese food. Our hosts are Jade Chen, a chef who was a legend in Taiwan for almost three decades and her daughter Muriel who runs the floor with warmth and style. Together they will cook up a marvellous feast, finishing with Jade's specially imported High Mountain or Oolong tea. Exquisite...lunch including wine. |
