Broome Girls and Pearls Safari

My dear girls, we all need that bright spot on the horizon to get us through and in 2010 we wanted to treat you to a simply fabulous week of all good things in that most magical spot – Broome.
Leave the cold grey city and come with us to the sunshine and the scents of frangipani, the glorious long stretch of Cable Beach where you can ride camels in the late afternoon, walk for miles and daydream, watch the clouds reflected in the beach wash, see the sun set over water and revel in the sheer beauty of the place.

Now as well as catching your breath and indulging in a luxurious spa treatment on us, we want to introduce you to this wild beautiful place full of history and magic. We’ll be shown the land with an award winning indigenous guide who truly makes you see the red cliffs and turquoise water with new eyes; we’ll have cocktails with our feet in the sand after a camel ride along that fabulous stretch of beach.

One of my favourite moments on a recent trip was watching a film at the lovely old outdoor cinema Sun Pictures – we are trying to get a special film shown on the night we visit…and we may have some luck as our host during our stay is Marilynne Paspaley of the famous pearling family.

Marilynne has just opened a resort called Pinctada Cable Beach nestled in the natural landscape just a brief walk from the sand dunes of Cable Beach..its already won awards and its just the spot for a group of girls to relax…not too big or small…nice pool, the attention to detail that you only get from having the owner look after you…plus…some incredible dinners in our honour, morning stretch classes to start the day, introductions to local art galleries and some of her favourite places…plus…those pearls.

We’ve had long discussions about what we could do with this fabulous connection…and we have a few ideas only a woman could dream up.

We’ll have a private showing at the very luxe Paspaley Pearl showroom, with champagne and pearl meat – you have to try this delicate flavour…and we try on pearls…and we get to wear whatever pearl masterpieces we like for our final evening dinner….the whole princess treatment!

There’s more…not just a group of great women getting together (and some of my life’s funniest and most incisive conversations have come from spending time with the Gorgeous groups) …but a day at the Broome Races with introductions to loads of great Broome people and so much more.

Treat yourself or leave this lying around in a strategic place…numbers are limited.

Our first Girls and Pearls Safari begins – please let us know your flight details. Best flight is possibly QF581 via Perth from Sydney with arrival into Broome airport  at 5.50pm. You’ll be picked up by our lovely resort staff and taken to the hotel for check-in and a welcome drink. (if you arrive earlier the resort will also come and get you)

We’ll all meet for cocktails and meet Marilynne Paspaley...all coinciding with our first Broome sunset – magic! Then we’ll move on to a relaxed dinner at the resort’s Brizo Garden Grill.
We will tuck you into bed before it gets too late -remember the 3 hour time difference makes that first day seem very long!

Friday, 18 June B,  D

Because of the time difference, you can start the day early if you wish with a stretch class at 0600 led by the staff at the Pinctada Spa...or you can walk on the fabulous long Cable Beach...or sleep in.

Breakfast will be at 0730 this morning because I know you will be excited about our first adventure.  Enjoy a European breakfast buffet (including a hot dish) and at 0830, we will head off with our indigenous guide for the special bush tucker walk through beautiful Minyirr Park.

Return to the resort to relax by the pool and prepare to get really pampered – we have an afternoon of spa treatments waiting for us – you will need to select a treatment and a time slot, so let us know as soon as you decide what you want  and when you want it. Click to see the menu

During the afternoon we will spend some time acquainting you with the delights of Broome – some of the great scenic areas plus a rundown of some of the shopping in town.

Dinner tonight is a themed dinner being called “Uniquely Broome” at the Selene Brasserie with hosts Marilynne Paspaley and her charming husband, Garry Grbavac.

You can book into a spa and beauty session if you like or relax by the pool or walk/shuttle to Cable Beach for those not booked for spa treatments, or shuttle into Chinatown for the morning markets.

Around 1.30 we head off to the Broome Race track for a champagne picnic lunch, a chance to have a bet, meet the locals and enjoy the racing north west style..think red earth and icy champagne....and girls – two up – if you’ve never played then this is your chance.

Back to the resort to kick off our shoes, hang out by the pool and relax.

Shuttle into town if you like on this free evening.

Sunday, 20 June  B, snacks at pearl showroom, early evening “supper on the sand” = D

Late morning we are doing the pearl things – a private “pearl appreciation session” at the Paspaley Boutique. You’ll get the chance to try the delicate delights of pearl meat (similar to abalone) and choose your pearls for our Gala Dinner – the Cinderella moment of being decked out in much finery!

In the afternoon we step into the picture postcard with a camel ride on Cable Beach .....followed by a glorious “ Supper on the Sand”.

And then as it gets dark, we head to the beautiful old outdoor picture theatre Sun Pictures for a special viewing of Bran Nue Dae, the musical filmed in Broome. Sun Pictures is the oldest continuously operating outdoor movie house in Australia and Marilynne has organised for this great film to be shown tonight especially for us. Its great being able to look up at the stars while you watch a movie!

Monday, 21 June B,  D

Start the day with some activity (stretch class) or none...followed by European breakfast buffet

Today is a day to suit your taste -

We will be taking a group of those interested in Aboriginal art to a gallery for a private viewing and talk.

We’ll also go and visit Anastastia’s Pool, the dinosaur footprints and some of other great places if we haven’t made it there already.

If you’re interested in history and would like a more in-depth tour of Broome, Marilynne highly recommends the Broome Town Tour. “It sounds ordinary but the operator is excellent, absolutely knowledgeable about Broome’s history and passionate about the town.  One friend extremely well travelled and on arts boards etc said it was one of the best tours she has experienced anywhere in the world.  He also won a Gold Medal at the 2009 Western Australia Tourism Awards”.

The spa is yours for a 60 minute facial of your choice...as soon as you book this safari, fill in the spa menu form for the Gorgeous Girls and pick your preferred time.

Tonight is our Cinderella evening – we will all be golden, glowing, relaxed  and wearing the world’s best pearls....push the pause button girls – it doesn’t get better than this!  We will indulge in a formal Gorgeous Gala Dinner at Selene Brasserie featuring a menu designed by one of my favourite chefs – the legendary Greg Malouf.
