Dear Food Lovers
<!--[endif]--> Welcome to another fabulous year of Gourmet Safaris in 2010 - the best food adventures on the planet!
In Sydney - We aim to give you an introduction to the many cuisines on our doorstep so you can become confident shopping for new ingredients and using them in a range of recipes. We've always found the best guides for these forays are the people who grew up in these cuisines, who can share some of the culture that surrounds the food, explain some of the special feasts and give you an insight into the secrets of the kitchen.
You can see our stellar range of guides on the Profile page of our website - they are a truly extraordinary group and we are so blessed to know them and count them as friends. Some work in the food industry professionally, others are engineers, television researchers, coffee experts, master builders, actors, teachers, accountants and IT geniuses....and we are so lucky to have harnessed their passion for their cuisines and cultures and encouraged them to share all they know. And they do!
Each year we have been able to add to the cuisines we explore as luckily Sydney continues to attract great new shops, artisan bakeries, butcheries, produce shops and emporiums as well as cafes and restaurants. As you're aware, most of these are small family businesses who open initially to service people of their own backgrounds. We are often asked by them "What do they want to know?" and we say "Everything!" Sometimes it takes a while for the magic to happen but when it does, they are great moments - of sharing food and knowledge.
In Australia - We take you to some places that are incredibly beautiful as well as wonderful food and wine destinations and we use locals who know and love these places to show you the best on offer - through the secret door if you like - that's what makes our safaris so special.
Margaret River is a perfect combination of world renowned surfing beaches, those lovely tall Kauri trees, acclaimed wineries, food producers and spectacular restaurants. And some great people to meet along the way.
Kangaroo Island is one of the most remote places in Australia and has a huge array of wildlife from seal-lions to little penguins, kangaroos - of course and koalas..plus olive oil groves, a sheep's milk dairy, plus the most pristine environment to make honey, and find eggs, seafood and wine. And we have a top chef who cooks like an angel who cooks up feasts in beautiful parts of the island.
In Victoria's High Country in autumn we'll go into the Italian realm - some of the highlights of the Italian Food Safari program which is broadcast in March. Expect long alfresco lunches, a cooking class, visits to wineries, roasting chestnuts, trees in shades of copper and gold plus some of Melbourne's Italian food haunts and a grand finale dinner at the acclaimed Grossi Florentino Restaurant hosted by Guy Grossi.
In Broome when southern Australia is getting really cold, this magic place smells of frangipanis and the sea is turquoise. We have been lucky enough to team up with a fabulous local - Marilynne Paspaley (yes she's from the pearling family!)...she has just opened a luxury resort and spa so we are joining forces for special girls and pearls foray into the wild North west. Expect sunset champagne on Cable Beach, a day at the local races and some relaxing and fun times.
Overseas - our Greek Island Safari gets rave reviews from travelers who all become Hellenophiles after two weeks on four different islands, some incredible regional food and warm welcoming people who open their homes and estates to us.
In Vietnam, we offer a single perfect week for women only on our Gorgeous Safari in spring and autumn...and a wonderful Gourmet Safari through the country led by local and Australian guides.
So...hope you like the sound of what's ahead and we see you soon!
